Live or Frozen « Thread Started on Dec 23, 2002, 1:12pm »
I feed these 2 Brazilian Rainbow Boas live food. From mice hoppers to rat pinkies. They are only 3 to 4 months old. But I have heard of feeding frozen animals to them to prevent the rodent destroying the snake if the snake refuses to eat. But these 2 guys that I got love to eat. I have also heard that mice or rats can bite durning the stranglation but I haven't seen it yet. I tried to feed them frozen food but they don't want it. So I had one snake kill a mouse for me by putting 2 in the cage (he loves to kill them but only eats one) and take the freshly killed one and put it with the other snake. Hes not even interested but as soon as a live one goes in hes on it. Whats your guys opinion on live vs frozen? Any benefits besides biting? Do you think it lowers aggression?

You have one nice killer on your hands! I feed mine live and frozen I prefer to feed them frozen though because of what you said. "But I have heard of feeding frozen animals to them to prevent the rodent destroying the snake" and it also prevents disease as well. Mine are not aggressive to me at all. I handle them everyday so they are all very docile. My little Dumeril's Boa is funny when he's hungry I throw a frozen adult mouse in there he tastes it with his tongue and then backs up and then he launches at it if it was alive. Dumeril's are ambushers. I think it's real cool to watch. Checkout this place they sell live and frozen feeders at reasonable prices and they ship to everywhere in the US.http://www.nyrodentfarms.com/
